Jd 9300 backhoe

Post by Apache » Tue May 28, 2019 8:39 am

Almost done cleaning up the reservoir on my brand new used 9300 hoe. It appears tight with no leaks. The guy i bought it off of ran it on a 4020 and it was all that tractor wanted. Question for folks is, what possible reason do people bypass the hoes hydraulic tank?? If it doesn’t leak and all, using the tank on the hoe would more than double the fluid capacity of the system. More means cooler and cooler means good. The tank was empty for 7 years so im cleaning it with some diesel and atf. Any suggestions on cleaning procedures??? Been soaking for 2 days now. Those 1 inch quick couplers not cheap!!!!

No reason for the tank, wasn't used on the crawler or industrial wheel tractors, not sure why you have one. Constant loader work is no harder than hoe work.
If it was run on a 4020, something has been changed, 4020 is closed center hyd, crawler is open center. Either the reservoir was for a PTO pump on the tractor, or the valve has been changed to closed center, and you will need to change it back.

He said nothing had been changed on the valve for the hoe, i asked about that due to being closed center system. I need to blow air through the hoe and make sure the valve is open. But, you CANNOT run closed center valve on open system, but you can run an open center valve on closed center system (not pretty but he did it) that pump must have been working!!!

So no need to use the reservoir in your opinion???

WOW, poor old pump must have been dying.
No idea on the reservoir, never seen one before. Look it up in a parts book, might give you some idea.

The tank is factory. Have 2 9300’s that have them. We did not use them when we mounted them.

Good to know that everything works fine not using the reservoir on the hoe. I was scared of heat being the reservoir is HUGE on the hoe. Thanks for the information guys. I am going to plug the reservoir on the hoe and leave it full if diesel and atf to slosh around for a year. I do NOT want that tank rust heading into the crawler at all. Thanks jwb and lavoy. Ill keep this updated when i can im sure someone might benefit from it.
Great site. Glad i found it
