40c mod for 3 pt or 2 inch receiver?

Post by Marty40c » Sun Jun 02, 2019 8:39 pm

I have a 40c crawler and would like to use some implements on the back if possible. I see the aftermarket makes 3 point system that slides into a 2 inch receiver box. It looks like they use to make 3 point for 420c but I haven't seen any pictures of a 40c with this upgrade. Ideas and thoughts on how I should progress. Tractor has a sturdy up down blade on the front (no pivots) and a pto on the back side with a swinging drawbar. Would like to do some cleanup from the logging on the property and maintain our gravel roads

Hi,

Well, the crawler 3pt is different than a tractor 3pt as it has downpressure. And, more force down than up. There were precious few made to boot. If I wanted to be able to do a basic tractor type of 3pt, I would be making my own adaptation of a 40T 3pt to the 40C. I say 40T as it is better than the one on a 40S, but if you find the lighter one easier it would also do.

I built a ripper for my 40C years ago. Guick-tach. Used a control valve off a forklift and cylinders from Harbor Freight. Welded 4"x8"x1/2" angle iron into box beam (last one I built for 1010 got a ready-made box beam). Shanks are cheap at the right place @$20. Would have helped to have a strong plasma cutter to cut the slots. Can send photos but only to a phone. Even made a 24" root plow to go into shank slots. Ripper made a world of difference in capability.

A crawler will eat any sort of 3PT hitch that hooks into a 2" receiver in very short order. A crawler 3PT has arms equivalent to what would been on a 620, 630, 730 size wheel tractor, no comparison to a Dubuque built wheel tractor as far as strength. Either you will need a factory 3PT, or I would consider trailing implements.

Thanks for the input, the root ripper would be a cool tool. Sounds like true functional 3 point just isn't in the works on the back side. Perhaps I can do a root rake add on to the front blade in the future.

Been thinking about this... beefing up the draw bar to accept a 2 in receiver box with side angle reinforcements going into the arc slide, From there putting a one point mount hitch into the receiver to give up down control. next a three point hitch quick adapter that has a a two inch receiver on the bottom to use it as a reversed connection.

adapting the one point hitch to heavy duty hydro would be ideal add part for increasing use lifting range/down force this would open the door to lots of implements.

Your crawler, your call, but my opinion is catastrophic failure with lots of hundred dollar bills on fire, and a lot of lost time trying. I have had multiple 3PT crawlers, and have seen first hand what they will wreck accidently, or due to stupidity on my part. Bracing to the arc piece or the draw piece is not the answer. You will need substantial bracing all the way to the rear cross bar to take the torque of lifting, and the stress of lifting needs to be distributed as well, or you will break the arc piece mounts out of the finals.
