3 roller support castings

Post by Dick Boitnott » Mon Jun 10, 2019 5:05 am

I have a 40C 1953 with 3 rollers on the track. the support castings which mount on the side frames are worn out and broken.
are there castings available for replacement?
part # on casting is TE45 Y
if you can buy them, where?

Good morning Dick,

I can help you with your parts but will offer this, if you don't know about it. You can find actual part numbers (to go along with the casting numbers you find) and JD names/info for your 40C components in the John Deere Parts Catalogs on line, even though JD will say most are NLA. https://jdparts.deere.com/servlet/com.d ... anguage=19 . Search 40 as the model. All the tractors, wheel and crawler, are in PC862. Seeing the drawings might help some better identify what you are asking about, as the names we use for components may vary.

It looks like the main page for your 3 roller track frames and components is https://partscatalog.deere.com/jdrc/sid ... pgId/71763. You can use the green arrows on that page to move to another page.

HTH

Jim

is there a site I can get a print on the supports?
I think I will machine them from solid and it would be nice to have a print if possible.

The only prints if there are any would be in Deere's possession, and never available to the public.

Dick, I don't know if you have the Model 40 Service Manual or not but it mentions that the roller sleeves are made of chilled cast iron. I don't know if this will affect your plan to machine new ones but just thought you should know. Good luck! By the way these units often develop cracks around the bearing edges during manufacture and this does not affect the serviceability. Lavoy can probably give you more info.
have 40c 4 roller crawler, 1927 Ford T Touring car, 1931 Ford A Roadster, 1951 Standard Vanguard Saloon. Never a dull moment!

thanks.
I have 1918 holt crawler, used to be artillery mover, 1927 Twin City 27-44 which family bought new in 28, 1935 farmall F-12, 1948 allis chalmers C, 1951 MG TD, 1964 Mg B, 1972 MGB and 1973 MGB.
The 1953 crawler I bought this spring with a supposedly stuck engine. turns out it is a stuck transmission. as I disassemble it I find other problems such as castings being broken.
Otherwise seems in good condition. Motor started without any trouble when out of gear!
