3325 winch question

Post by 2010OWNER » Tue Jul 09, 2019 6:10 pm

I'm working on a 3325.
Pulled the left cover and found a mess. The brake band may be salvageable, but the clutches are toast. The drum won't turn. Had to press the driveshaft out the right side. It wouldn't slide out as the book said it should. Found all 6 cap screws that attach the brake drum to the winch drum broken. The bearings are rusty.
I'm trying to get the left bearing cover pulled so I can replace the bearings and seals. I can't get it to budge. I've made a puller as pictured in the tech manual and rattled the grade 8 bolts down until they won't turn any more...several times. No luck.
Am I missing something? Do I have to remove those broken cap screws? Should I try heating the casting?
Thanks,

I had a similar issue and never got mine removed...I broke a bolt off trying to pull the cover and decided to just clean everything and put it back together. I had to heat the bearing to burn away the crud. After getting it back together...it worked like a charm.

I'll have to rebuild it eventually...I tried all the trick up my sleeve without much luck, sorry I couldn't help. Your not the only one with issues though.

Mine was a 3315 winch and I had to remove the 6 bolts to access the bearing cover...might be a different setup than yours.
