JD450C radiator availabilty

Post by bolt37 » Sun Oct 06, 2019 4:08 pm

My 450c popped a big hole in the radiator upper tank today. I know I can pull it and get it acid washed, cored and brazed at a good shop I have used before. But I looked for a new one, and all I found were $1,200 or more! It is a JD part number AT39009. Is there a crossover list somewhere that might have a different one that would work for less?

If no luck new I'll just get it fixed and drive on.

Thanks all!

JDParts says a AT116777 Radiator is the same thing as the AT39009.

I didn't look long but the cheapest I saw was 1500. Ouch, if fixing is an option....

As psprague posted the JD parts catalog AT39009 subs to AT116777 now. I see prices of about $2130. from the sites of the two dealers I use. If you have a radiator shop that does good work and you trust; I would be looking hard at them doing a repair/re-core if it was mine. There might be some cheaper aftermarket radiators out there but who knows the quality, fit, or cooling capacity. I see a lot of posts on other sites from guys not happy with aftermarket radiators they have purchased due to one or more of those things. Send Lavoy an email (postmaster@jdcrawlers.com) and see if he can help you. If he has an aftermarket radiator, I would trust one from him.

I have a 450 plain and I just had my radiator re-cored at a local rad shop for 885.00 including 7% sales tax. After about 2 weeks searching on internet the least I found a radiator for was 1500.00.

Ouch! I'm afraid that's what I will end up with. Gotta have it working so I will start pulling that radiator this weekend....

Many thanks for the leads for radiator! I will work them all and also try the bubble gum trick...

I'll post my results when they happen.

Got it fixed at Cookeville Radiator for $100 and will pick it up this week i hope. Its a 2 hour drive.to get it, but worth it. They do great work on vintage radiators and I know it will work for years to come.
