Do you have the John Deere Technical Manual # TM1108 for your 550? There are removal procedures in the technical manuals I have for my machines. If you are pulling the transmission and planning on repairing it you will need the manual. You should check with Lavoy (postmaster@jdcrawlers.com) and see if he can get the manual(s) you need. If you don't have the Operator's manual it is # OMT70877.

I think normally the engine is pulled to remove the transmission, but haven't done that operation. There are a few fellows with 550 experience, that post here, who may see this and have more info.
