1960 440 ICD Build

Post by Zlkaser » Sun Nov 10, 2019 11:34 pm

I picked up my first jd 440 icd about a year ago now amd started to redo it one step at a time! First thing was an engine overhaul due to it being locked up solid! Mine being equipped with a DD 2-53, i did new pistons, liners, turned the crank, rebuilt the blower, remaned the head, new injectors, etc, etc.

My question is on the undercarriage. Is the any parts still available for these either OE or aftermarket? (Chains, pads, rollers, etc.) or does it all have to be sourced good used parts? Any help or direction would be great!

New 350 aftermarket rollers will fit, 350 chain will work if you rerim the sprockets, that is about it.

Ok good to know! I had read some of that in here, just wasnt 100% sure yet! What do you mean by rerim the sprocket? And what year range of 350 works for chains, rollers? Im assuming the older models

You have to cut the rim of teeth off of your sprocket, and do the same with a 350 sprocket and then weld it back on your sprocket center.
All 350 are the same as far as pitch and bushing diameter.

Seems like there is a small difference in the 440 rollers and the 350 rollers. I think something needs to be removed so they will bolt on. I just don't remember if the removal has to be done when installing the 350 rollers on to the 440 or the other way around. I'm sure you'll figure it out.

This company advertises they make a weld on rim for 350 sprockets along with some others. Might be less expensive than cutting up new 350 sprockets. I don't have any knowledge of them beyond their website; maybe Lavoy or someone else has used their products.

Absolutely spectacular product, best ones I have ever used, but over $200 each I think. Complete 350 sprockets can sometimes be found for $150.

Thanks Lavoy. Good to know someone has had hands on them and they could be a viable option. Like most things now one should always check around. Prices and what is available vary almost day to day it seems.
