snap decision at JD350 wide-track at auction?

Post by AddamsonFlint » Tue Dec 03, 2019 1:08 pm

Hey guys,

Didn't know what forum to post this in. But I wanted to get your 2 cents on something, the pros or the cons.

The quick and short is I juuust found out about a 1983 JD 350 wide track six way at an auction in PA later today, and I don’t think it’s gonna get a
lot of attention. I can’t find out its run condition in time for the auction start, but can have a friend who lives close, go bid on it.
There’s the chance this thing could go for sub 1k money.

If I could pick this thing up for like 8 hundo, would it be worth throwin them dice on the run condition variable? I mean, I have a 350C loader,
parts machine at worst. If decent condition, a killer purchase. Thoughts?

If in fact it is an 83 it should be a C series. So yes it could be a parts machine. I would say it is up to you as to how bad you need a parts machine setting around if it turns out to have major problems. Yes a buck could be made flipping it if it is in fair running condition. Either way, do you need a project? Only you can answer that. JMHO

I could be wrong, but I highly doubt any wide track will bring only $800. If it is a C model, the sprocket drive components are worth triple that per side if in good shape.

Wow those are some wide pads! They look like they are around 36”
1956 JD420, gearmatic 8a winch, custom 6 way blade and FOPS.

We all know how efficient our government is and how surplus sales go.

Jim, I love your last line lol. Do I need another project? No (sigh), I don't lol. But I could always use a parts machine if it were a steal. Until I got one ways. I guess I'll have to see where the auction goes and ultimately run with my gut.

I have always loved those tracks though. I know it's LGP thing, but can it push better as well with all that traction? Or does the LGP possibly hurt that cause in not letting it dig in as much?

It was intended for snow grooming.

I never seen a 350 worth only $800, so yeah I'd bid on a picture for that amount and higher.

FYI

Condition was “unknown “. Passaic County, NJ, government surplus. 1,300 visits to the page with 76 bids. Total price including purchase price and 12.5% buyer’s premium was $3,684.37. It appears interest in the mechanical machines is healthy and continuing to grow. Did it go to a forum member??

Any wide gauge with complete drive system to the sprockets will sell well. The drive parts are obsolete and very spendy. Last price I knew was several thousand per side for the drive piece, collar and support. Plus, those pads were not too bad looking, and I think they are $30+ each. All in all, that would have been a great parts machine, I would bet it went to a salvage yard, or as a donor to some one that needed parts.

There's one around here where I'm by. I pretty sure the guy wants to sell. If anyone has an interest I can dig up his contact info. I'm pretty sure its a "B" dry-clutch model with PAT blade and canopy.

He bought all new rails and final drive components and had them installed. He is posting on Kijiji soon.

I have videos and pics too if I can find his texts.
