TO455DX715244

Post by skunk237 » Tue Jan 14, 2020 7:21 pm

A friend of mine is looking at a 455D crawler. As I have a 450C he asked me to see if I can find some info for him. I think this is a 1984 or 85, but not certain. . . Also, what is the difference between my 450C and this 455DX model..?
Many Thanks for the help.

The 455D has 2 more hp, updated tin work and dash. It was only available as a track loader. The D is the next series, succeeding the C series. Otherwise, it is almost identical to a 450C track loader. I think the X indicates a track loader. The 455DX should be preceded by a TO indicating a turbo is used.

Best regards, Bruce

Hi Bruce,

That serial number a sequence looks like the one on my 450E dozer. If so the TO at the beginning is the build location, Dubuque Tractor Works. Then the model 455D, the X would be for loader configuration, followed by the six digit serial number. The T for the turbo on mine shows up on the engine data/serial tag, after the engine model number. The introduction section which is part of the parts catalog will have the breakdown of the data tags, to be sure. I think they changed to this format sometime during or around the B series and it may have changed some again in recent years to include emissions and build year, maybe more.

Best regards,

Jim

Oh one other convenience, the floorboards are flat/level for the operator. This is a major improvement over the C series IMO. Transmission is a 4spd with a HLR shuttle. Still uses levers for the steering clutches.

Good morning Jim.
I have found a couple 455D’s for sale and photographed on the net. Their SN plate is stamped Moline, Illinois in the bottom right corner.

Best regards, Bruce

Hi Bruce,

It appears they started using just the corporate address on the tags when they changed. All the tags on my 450E have: DEERE & COMPANY MOLINE ILLINIOS across the bottom of the tags. I'm thinking it was a change due to them having more worldwide manufacturing sites, the we're one company philosophy. I looked at some of those pictures and they have added "Made in USA" after the Illinois on the newest style barcoded tags. The alphabetic prefix of the serial number is still Dubuque Tractor works for the build location. Just my thoughts.

Best regards,

Jim
