450 Won't Charge

Post by 450FiveString » Tue Mar 10, 2020 11:27 am

I've got a straight 450 that won't charge. I've taken the alternator and had it checked out and it's ok. This dozer has a Motorola alternator and I presume it's original. I now suspect the voltage regulator. I just bought a new one (AR77485) but the plug is different. This is the part number in the parts manual but the manual says it has been substituted. The problem is the plug is different. The original plug has 6 wires and the plug has 4 vertical blades and 2 horizontal. The replacement part has 4 horizontal blades with one pair above the other. Anyone know a fix or have a suggestion?

I believe I can get them. Ran into this on a 350 a while back, real hard to find, took a month or so to order, but finally came in.

Get me one if you can Lavoy. My original model number is RS2J1B. I'll post a picture as soon as I figure out how to do it. The new instructions have me confused.

Check your ground strap from battery to metal of dozer. I had same problem and it was the ground not getting good connection

Hey banjo. I changed mine out with a one wire delco, but I think I saved the old parts. I will look today for you and you can have them if it will help you out. Hope all is well with you and family.

Hey Randy, good to hear from you. Thanks for the offer but I got a new voltage regulator from Lavoy and that fixed the problem. It's charging now. All is fine here, just a lot of rain like last year and going a little stir crazy. I'm retired now and itching to get out and move some dirt when things dry up a little.

Glad you got it fixed, wish I could say the same. I am still looking for trans parts. We have plenty of liquid sunshine here too.
