1986 455E transmission oil checking
Folks, I have a 1986 455E that I inherited from my father-in-law. I have the JD service manual but that thing is a piece of junk when it comes to telling me where things are. How do I check / add fluid to the transmission? There are 4 "plugs" on either side of the operator area, near the back of the body just above the tracks. Do I undo the plug and check to see if fluid runs out? One plug appears to be 1/2" drive square and the other one appears to be 3/4" drive. I'm still learning how to work on this thing so be gentle

Don't blame the Technical manual, you need a copy of the Operator's Manual # OMT81347 for the type info you are looking for here. Checking and adding oil, and other normal service items usually done by the owner or operator are generally covered in the Operator's Manual, not the Technical Manuals. A dealer's shop would have Operator's Manual and Service/Technical Manuals (The 445E actually has 2 Technical Manuals Volumes, TM1330OP and TM1330RE, required)and a parts catalog as well, normally, for the mechanics to reference.
My 450E uses the same manuals. The right manual has the information. Here is a picture of the page, from my copy of OMT81347, on checking the transmission/steering clutch oil.
