JD 1010C Diesel

Post by Keith-OR » Thu Sep 10, 2020 9:57 pm

I finally got the Crawler that I bought Fathers day home yesterday. I cannot read the serial plate, so I do not the year. The gear shift is on top of trans housing, where as my other one gear shift is on the dash.
Also it has a ignition switch that I have never seen before, two holes that ya put something in to turn it.
Can anyone give an approximate dae of this machine?

Lavoy do you have one of those keys??

Thanks
Keith

IT has to be later than about 21,000 give or take.
Don't think I have any keys, I believe I can still get them.

Thanks Lavoy. i called the previous owner about the key, he said he forgot to give it to me, going to mail it tomorrow. I'm going to try to start the 1010 this week. Defiantly needs a new radiator cap, no rubber seal in it at all.

Thanks Ken, I'll check with the dealer tomorrow for a key. Doesn't hurt to have an extra key.

I went to JD dealer this morning to get key for my 1010, our local dealer did not have one on hand. But they have one at another dealer, which will be here this after noon.

The original key came in today in the mail, And got the new key from JD Deere Dealer. So I installed a battery, checked to see if it would crank over. It does turn over. Checked the oil level, way too high, so I will drain the crankcase tomorrow, put in new oil.
I have no manual on the diesel engine. How many quarts of oil does this engine take. Also what oil filter do I need?

Thanks
Keith

I'm at a lose on the way the ignition works, I turn the key right one click, which engages the starter and what I would assume should be the start position is not. I turn the ignition to what I think is the start position it disengages starter. When I turn the key to the left nothing happens.
The original owner gave me the operating manual for the 1010 gas, So I'm going to need to find an operators manual for 1010 diesel.

HOW does this ignition work????

Thanks
Keith

You will want to get the right manuals, I expect Lavoy can help you with those. In the mean time there is a wheel tractor service manual (SM2033) you can use on line at https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... FZqY0NZUUE . The electrical is section 100. I would say it is close enough to, if not the same as, the crawler electrical to help you with this problem. It looks like the switch positions left to right are: Glow plugs, Off, Run, Start. From your description of how it acts, it sounds like some wires may be connected to the wrong terminals on one end or the other.

Thanks for the website. I printed out the schematics of the wiring. They have replaced the generator with an alternator, so might have messed up the wiring. I will trace wiring out tomorrow to see if maybe have gotten wires switch some place.

again thanks
Keith
