Re: stuck motor
After soaking the cylinders with PB blaster and the engine won't break loose using the starter, I feel the best way is to tear it down. After removing the crank, I use a block of wood to drive the pistons down and out. Clean the cylinders, piston, and etc.
Do the appropriate measurements and get the parts needed from Lavoy.

I agree with grego1948.

Re: stuck motor
On the 1958 420u we restored we let automatic transmission fluid set on the pistons and also penetrating oil.and from there it went real slow. Are you wanting to save the pistons to use or are you going to replace them?
Re: stuck motor
i would like to save the pistons.
Re: stuck motor
We used a block of wood and a hammer to try to knock it out with penetrating oil in it still. I have heard coke will do the trick due to the acid that is in it as well...

Re: stuck motor
I agree with Greg too. This engine is small, and can be removed relatively easily. When I’ve dealt with stuck engines, unless they are an easy unstick, the rings, cylinders, and bearings, etc, become suspect. By doing a tear down, these parts can be inspected and repaired/replaced giving confidence that the machine will run more reliably. When I’ve short cut the process, I’ve had subsequent engine problems, usually at the most inopportune time.
I still tend to take the most cost effective approach as I see it at the time, meaning that I don’t do “with new” replacements unless absolutely necessary (rings, seals, and bearings usually the exceptions). Good luck.

Re: stuck motor
If the engine won't break free after soaking with penetrating fluid and trying to crank it over with the starter, force is needed. Using force, like a block of wood, will usually break it free but, the key word there is break. You can damage the top of the piston and, more likely, break the lans and/or the rings. There could also be cylinder damage. Therefore, if it comes to beating on it, you should go all the way and remove the pistons to do a proper rebuild. After all, it's easy to remove the engine and it's only two little cylinders. Lavoy can probably supply the needed parts and maybe give you the needed specs.

Re: stuck motor
i might take a spark plug and knock the insulator off, weld a washer on ,thread it for a zerk fitting and hydraulic the piston down. once it moves i can get it to roll over.

Re: stuck motor
Don't forget by forcing the grease into the cylinder, you're putting pressure in all directions in there and could force something to give(move) that you don't want to.

Re: stuck motor
I would echo what Greg said. A grease gun at 4000-10,000 psi WILL bend a rod, break in the cylinder wall, break the head, or other possibilities that cost money.

Re: stuck motor
Hi,
When the pistons are truly stuck, bust out their tops and yank them out upwards using a Ford Model A hub puller bolted to the top of the block. It's the cast iron oil rings rust welded to the bores. They come out a lot easier up than down. Been there, done that.

Re: stuck motor
am curious ...where are you at with this engine? I had my 2 cyl engine stuck and got it done..easily,(it had set for 15-20 years) tho had pb blaster an miracle oil setting for at least 6 months in the cyl....only one usually gets stuck...that would be the front cylinder....pull oil pan and loosen bearing cap enough to try to turn crank a bit to determine just which one is frozen....advise results and will get back to you and put your location in your profile...located in the login drop down box...someone may be nearby to help
