Seafoam in Hydraulic System?
I must have a bit of water in the hydraulic system on my 40 crawler. It was below freezing a few days ago and the hydraulics would not work. Yesterday the temp was above freezing and today the hydraulics work fine. I changed the fluid a year ago and didn't see any water at that time. I suspect there is just residual condensation in the system. Is Seafoam good for this and if so, how much?

Fundytides,
Yes definitely do use sea foam in your hydraulics....Believe that i put about 2 ounces in my jd440, which should be about same tank size as yours,
have 6 way blade on mine...It will certainly make difference...we supposed to get up to about 50 or 60 in next couple days so will help you as well....probly only need about 1 ounce, i watch it and add that when i see it changing a bit..

Re: Seafoam in Hydraulic System?
Thanks dtoots1. I'll have to wait for the weekend for temps above freezing so I will do it then. I am putting the dozer in a heated building for the winter at that time as well so I won't have any more problem with freezing but will still use the Seafoam to alleviate the moisture problem. Several years ago when I was leaving the dozer outside all winter, I ended up with a cracked pump body. Don't want that to happen again!

Re: Seafoam in Hydraulic System?
i usually put some in the fuel tank as well as the engine oil...have also put some in the tranny fluid as it also gets condensation
Re: Seafoam in Hydraulic System?
The oil has to be changed every year, trying to leave it in there just does not work. Deere actually wanted it changed every spring and fall. I also replaced my drain plug with an elbow and ball valve with the handle cut off. Now I can drop a socket down there with a long extension (to the nut on the ball valve handle) and drain the water off easily.
