JD 350 C dozer track extender stuck

Post by rcbiggert12 » Mon Oct 03, 2022 10:54 am

I have a 350C JD dozer with the track adjuster stuck. Tried pushing it in, no luck, so I took the adjuster off. I put the ball and screw back in... but the grease keeps coming out at the bottom hole. Do I keep putting grease in until it moves in place? Bolt should be tight? Help! lol

Back off on the locknut and then tighten the bolt and it should pressure up and extend. You can mildly use a hammer around the rod end of the cylinder while it is under pressure to get it to move. Once apart contact Lavoy for a new seal.

I'm assuming you still have the adjuster that has the bolt with a lock nut?? If so then make sure the bolt is snug against the ball. It doesn't need to be super tight but tight just the same. Make sure the lock nut on the bolt is backed off far enough to let the bolt secure the ball. Then tighten the lock nut to hold it in place. Also make sure no debris has gotten underneath the ball as this will allow grease to leak past it.

Itried it and it still has grease coming out the bottom hole. I even took the screw out again, use a little magnet to get the ball back out, to make sure every thing was in good shape and clean. Put the bb back in, tightened bolt and then nut... still comes out the bottom hole. Any ideas what to do next?

Would it be foolish to weld the hole shut?

You can't really weld it shut, you'd never be able to collapse the adjuster when you need to work on the track or put a thrown track back on. There has to be something wrong or stuck in the hole. I'd clean it out really well carb cleaner/compressed air and find out what's preventing it from sealing up.

Thank You Thank You Thank you! There was a piece of the old bearing stopping it from seating! New ball in and pressure applied tapped with a hammer and presto! it broke loose.
