Hello to all
I have a new to me 440ic crawler with a push blade manual angle
The left side was tight so I got the track loosened per manual
I ran it for about 6hrs and now it is tight again.
What did I do wrong?
2nd question
The right side steering is not as good as the left.
It takes a hard pull to get the right to work when in forward gear but in reverse it is much better.
The individual I bought it from said that side had been replaced with all new parts and you can see all new bolts on outside casing.

Simply, go thru book procedures and will probably have to adjust several times until all the linkages get lined up., loose and worn pins etc...all make it a bit challenging, but it will get there..

Re: JD 440 IC
Pins and bushing are in great shape per mechanic I had look at it beofre buying.
So sometimes it has to be be readjusted more than once?
Sorry if that question sound dumb, but I have never owned one before.
My dad had an OC3 when he 1st started the farm but I was too little to remember it other than pictures.
Always wanted one and this came up after serious looking for 5 yrs

Re: JD 440 IC
Just to clarify, track adjustment and steering adjustment are two entirely different things. You said you loosened the left track and now it is tight again. Do your tracks have the threaded rods to move the idlers or hydraulic adjusters you use a grease gun to tighten the tracks or open a release screw to let grease out if too tight? I am thinking you adjusted the left side steering, not the left track, if it tightened again. dtoots1 is right sometimes it takes a couple steering adjustments to get things to settle in if the machine hasn't been used in a while. Are the steering clutch compartments dry? Any oil or water in them will cause problems.

Sorry, it has the grease tensioning
I did not touch the steering bands

Re: JD 440 IC
If you let grease out and loosened the track, I don't see it tightening on its own. If you were working in material that can pack in the chains, I can see it appearing tight from a buildup. The other remote thought I had would be the track being over tight that the spring behind the adjuster was stuck and has now relaxed back to its stop.
Re: JD 440 IC
I had a crawler mechanic come out.
He found it right away.... busted bolt inside of spring
He is picking up then doing the right-side band adjustment
And greasing all rollers as he also has the low-pressure gun and a couple of these models for sale.
