tranny gunk
JD450 b : I'm cleaning the tranny filter basket. It's full of green slime, sludge, and particulate. Can I use diesel fuel to rinse out the tranny with out damaging anything internally? I've got some high end shifting issues and this seems to be a good place to start. I also don't want to contaminate all the new oil when I fill it! Can the range change cover be removed and the clutches be rinsed from the top down? Thanks
Re: tranny gunk
Yes you can remove the cover and no you won't hurt anything by using diesel fuel to rinse / clean things. When you do refill the transmission I would add a can or bottle of anti fungal / bacteria treatment as well. The slime or gunk is actually a bacteria / fungus that will grow in petroleum products. I would also add it to your fuel tank as most likely it's in there as well.

Thanks Leonard, I'll do that. Good next step in this rehab.
