1963 JD crawler with reverser
1963 JD crawler with reverser
Mine works fine until you shut it off and let it sit for a while it needs to build the pressure up again I'm wondering if it's in the clutch accumulator
Re: 1963 JD 1010 crawler with reverser
Works good when you're using it until you shut it off and it doesn't move until you idle it until it builds pressure up again
Re: 1963 JD crawler with reverser
Welcome to the Boards.
1963 could be a 1010C or a 2010C. It may help it you tell what crawler model you have. Do you have the JD service manual for it? Sounds like some pressure checks are in order.

Re: 1963 JD crawler with reverser
Yes it is a 1010 c serial number 29190 it will work all day as long as you don't shut it off something to do with the clutch if you touch the clutch then you have to idle it for a long time to build the pressure back up I did all the pressure checks and change the shims underneath and everything is within the guidelines I do have a service manual it's almost like it gets an air pocket in there and you have to run it to get that gets out it's actually dangerous if you have it in Gear it will all of a sudden take off on you when it builds pressure back up I am thinking it's in the valves in the clutch Bank the accumulator they call it does that sound like something it could be I hope I can find this problem it's been that way ever since I owned it for 5 years nobody seems to know I appreciate any suggestions you have thanks Joe
Re: 1963 JD crawler with reverser
Accumulator cushions the shift, it does not have enough capacity for it to take more than tenths of a second to fill it. I agree it is a pressure issue of some sort, but it is not the accumulator.
Is the brake pedal coming all the way up every time? Have you changed fluid and filter?

Re: 1963 JD crawler with reverser
I have changed the fluid and filter the filter is very touchy about how much you tighten it crushes easily.... I don't see what the brakes would have to do with any of this when you idle it and it builds pressure back up you can hear it when it's just about ready to go... There has to be a leak somewhere in the system are there any pressure valves that could do this ?

Re: 1963 JD crawler with reverser
What type of fluid do I use in the reverser I cannot get what it calls for in the manual they don't make it anymore 1963 1010c

What type of fluid do I use in the reverser I cannot get what it calls for in the manual they don't make it anymore 1963 1010c... Right now it has multi-purpose automatic transmission fluid from fleet farm my... Shop manual says John Deere type 303 special purpose oil or automatic transmission fluid type A
Re: 1963 JD crawler with reverser
The current fluid to use in place of the 303 is John Deere Hy Gard, or a UTHF meeting John Deere's J20C spec. You should find that on the product container label. The JD303 is no longer available as the whale oil used as an ingredient in it was banned. The aftermarket fluids sold as 303 now, are of questionable quality; stay away from them.
Re: 1963 JD crawler with reverser

Send Lavoy a direct email (postmaster@jdcrawlers.com). He likely has the correct one in his store.
Re: 1963 JD crawler with reverser
R & R only, there are no new crawler water pumps available.

Re: 1963 JD crawler with reverser
Well I put a aftermarket water pump new on it and it seems to be working good so far... No core-charge so I still have my old one if I want to rebuild it...$105
