JD 440 ICD intake hose T 11584 T

Post by JD440ICD2006 » Sat Oct 07, 2006 9:26 pm

Anyone know a source for the air intake hose that goes to the top of the blower intake on a GM 2-53? It is smaller on one end (size of intake pipe from air cleaner) and larger (size of the top of the blower intake) on the other. It makes a 90 degree turn in the middle.
Part number is T 11584 T. It is called an "elbow reducing hose".

Okay, following up on a really old post. Did you or anyone ever come up with a replacement? It seems this crops up once in a while, and if still no source, I am thinking of trying to get them made somehow.

Wonder if some of the silicon elbows for turbo systems might work if you could find the right diameter for both ends? You can get them in a pretty blue color also. LOL

I found one manufacturer that makes elbows, but nothing in the correct size so far.

Has anyone ever tried to "vulcanize" their damaged one?
Mine is cracked on the underside of the 90 but thankfully not clear through.
I haven't had any luck finding replacements of these either Lavoy.

Tried my local Detroit dealer today for some other stuff, and he did not even recognize the block serial number I gave him.

Lavoy,

Hard to recall but I believe the inlet pipe is a JD part. DD did not have it is only for the 440 ICD.
It will be luck to find one with the correct ID on both ends, a 90 angle, and the correct length.
Also, it has to be thick enough to not collapse with the vacuum pulled by the blower against the oil bath air cleaner.

That is what I am afraid of. Someone claimed once to have found a replacement, but I am striking out so far.

I have a product that I have used on tires.
Repaired a crack and has held for years!
May work to salvage an old one.

JD 440ICD intake hose

Post by gregjo1948 » Wed Feb 06, 2013 5:43 am

I'm not familiar with this hose but I have a thought. Could you use a piece of exhaust pipe the diameter of the small end, bent the 90 degrees you need, and stretch the other end to the diameter you need for the larger end? Using short pieces of hose on each end. Any auto repair or muffler shop could do the job. gregjo1948

As 2006 said, I'm thinking this is a JD only part. From surfing fleebay I've noticed that the governor, blower, and oil pan are noticeably different compared to the standard detroit 2-53.
I've had the same issue finding the buffer screw spring for the governor. The DD dealers look at me funny when I give them the part numbers that are in the manual.

Gregjo, that sounds like a pretty good idea. It might be tight with getting extra pieces of short hose in there. The "straight" parts of the elbow in question are very short. Depends on how original of a look you're going for.

They took the basic GM 2-53 and made a few JD parts so that it would work in the 440 C frame.
It is a detuned version, with 35 MM injectors. JD did not even offer a tach, only an hour meter.
Everything to add a tach is there, all they had to do was offer it as an option but for some reason chose not to do so.
Could be due to the 440 ICD was just a baby step to get them a diesel crawler and on to the New Gen line.
Many a marketing lie was told back then.

If you slide the short hoses onto the pipe first; Would it work? Could you start at the larger end with the correct diameter hose with the elbow that you need, and insert a smaller hose inside for the smaller diameter? gregjo1948

Some radiator hoses are made of EPDM rubber, the same rubber used on flat rubber roofs. There is a EPDM glue that cements / fuses two EPDM pieces together. It is used anytime there is a lap in the roofing.

If you followed gregjo's suggestion, perhaps you could permanently fuse the two hoses together as one. A local flat roof roofer would probably do it for you. They would have the primer and know how to do it. Gil
