1. I assume the output shaft comes out to the rear, or at least has to be tapped back far enough to take the sliding gears off the shaft?
2. Given #1, I assume the ring gear and carrier have to come out as the pinion fouls the ring gear if I try to tap it back as is.
3. Given #2, pointers on removing the ring gear and carrier appreciated. I imagine the bearing quills have to come off after I get the clutch housings off.
I have one clutch housing loose, waiting on a good set of duckbill snap ring pliers to get the brake bellcrank snap ring off.

It looks like when the front bearing on the output shaft went out, the shaft flopping around chewed the ring gear up pretty good. Pinion, as much as I can see of it, looks good. Is this ring gear too far gone to use?
If it needs to be replaced, should they be replaced as a set? It appears that the pinion is a part of the shaft.
