450C starting issues

Post by JayWord » Mon May 18, 2020 6:36 pm

This 450C sat for a while. My friend said it probably just needed new fluids. So in the shop it went.
Got it back running with new fluids, filters, and a couple fresh batteries.
It ran for 45mns then filled the crank case with diesel.
I replaced the lift pump, changed the oil and it ran!
30mns later, it lost power and would only idle. Any throttle would make it stall. At least the crank case wasn't filling with diesel anymore.
After some research and talking to a couple people, we determined that the injection pump was probably bad.
I pulled.it and had it rebuilt.
Installed my newly rebuilt injection pump and it sounded and ran great....for about 30mns. It then lost power and wouldn't accept any throttle. After idling for a while, it stalled and wouldn't restart.
Thinking I may have gotten something wrong when installing the rebuilt pump, I took it off and reinstalled it again. Results...same thing. It will crank, but doesn't fire.
I pulled some fuel lines and cranked it...fuel is moving.
I wanted to post pics of the fuel lines I checked, but haven't figured out how to attach pics here.
I also checked power to the injection pump- it's getting power .
I noticed two wires coming from what I assume is the regulator on the back of the alternator. The positive wire was frayed and sparked when I wiggled it. I replaced it. No change in results.
The other wire coming from regulator goes to nothing. I'm wondering if this is the problem. Once I figure out how to post a pic, I'll post it.
Also, a wire that comes from the instrument cluster up to a fitting on the side of the exhaust broke. Will post a pic when I can.
So...what's next?

Well let me tell you a story of my last 2 months and learning from this page. Last 2 months been having same issue with our 450b. So I changed lift pump, replaced the brand new Napa filters my dad installed with actual jd brand, replaced one injector and line, and all the injector top thingies- idk actual name- then I read this page. Call a repairman that over the phone confirmed same information I learned on this page. All items pointed towards fuel tank. I drained the tank. Checked to make sure lines to the lift pump were clear- using compressed air . Then where the fuel comes out of ran into the fuel line I used a pc of copper house wire to make sure the line was clean of debris. I did encounter resistance which lead me to believe some buildup or something was in there. I also used same wire to clean the vent tubes at top of tank under the cap. After that it’s run time went from almost nine to I ran it next day for 5hr straight with not one issue. Good luck
