450 Injection Pump Install - Shaft Seals

Post by nrowles » Tue Jun 25, 2024 6:21 am

The manual states to use a special tool to compress the shaft seals when reinstalling the injection pump. Do you have any tips to the install if I don't have that tool?

I've always worked them in by carefully working around the seal lip with a small screwdriver (round any sharp edges off) and a piece of mechanics' or tig wire with the end bent at an as "L", again round the end off so there is no sharp edge. Don't try to put much inward pressure on the pump/seal as you get the lips started in.

Sounds good, thanks.

When installing these injection pumps, is it easier/better to have two people doing it or will we just get in each others way? I could have a friend help with getting the pump shafted/mounted if that's better. One handling the pump and the other keeping an eye on the shaft/seals.....?

That is up to you. I've always done them alone.
