JD 440 dozer final drive problem

I have a 440 dozer and the quill on the left side that holds the shaft that drives the track sprocket is getting horizontal force pushing the quill out. When I got the dozer one of the three tabs on the quill was broken, at that time I didn't realize why. I had that fixed and the same thing is happening again.
There shouldn't be much outward force on this, right? I'm thinking an interior bearing in the rear end may be going bad.
Any thoughts?

Not sure just exactly what is happening here....please explain what motions you are going thru...Are you moving the steering lever and engaging the brakes/clutches and the quill making a popping kinda noice??? If so that usually is an adjustment problem in that the quill is moving too far. The balls behind are literally moving out of the groove.

There is no 3 bolt quill on the axle shaft, only the pinion shaft. Either way, you need to quit using the crawler and pull the final drive to find out what is wrong.
