replace original fuel pump on a 440 icd with electric pump?

Post by frozendozer » Sat Apr 18, 2009 1:05 pm

Hey all

Just putting the finishing touches on a finale drive rebuild of an old JD 440 icd. I replaced the clutches and bearings and put new paint on her. She is ready to go to work on my small firewood business in the bush of northern Canada.

Being old equipment, i figure that some other breakdowns will happen, and just my luck it will be the water pump and fuel pump.

I am currently searching for both, but in the mean time i thought perhaps there is some one that rigged up a electric fuel pump?

At first glance it looks like it could be simple process, just bring adequate pressure to the injectors, the manual says that fuel pressure at the cylinder head inlet should be a minimum of 35lbs with normal pressure of 55-70 lbs pressure.

Can any one see why this could be a problem?

thanks all
