440 clutch lubrication question

Post by mgbuddydad » Sun Apr 19, 2009 7:03 pm

Re-installling the throw out bearing assembly in a 440 gas. Should the carrier that slides on the clutch tube be packed with grease inside, and if so, what kind of grease ?

Grease from the zerk fitting only goes to bearing, possibly there is another path for grease to inside of carrier that is blocked. . . . . . ?

Hesitate to put grease this close to a clutch . . . .

Thanks,

Buddy

There should be a passage so that some grease gets on the tube as well as in the bearing.

ok, thanks Lavoy, will find the hold and clear it.

Should I also pack the inside cavity of the carrier with grease ?

What kind of grease ?

If you clean the hole out, it will grease itself. I usually put some anti-seize on them at assembly just to be safe, then the grease will take care of it after that.
