I thought I would share my success in stopping the coolant leak into my oil on my 2010 Diesel using a product called K-Seal in the coolant.
I bought this 2010 with a fresh rebuild of the engine by the prior owner. I don't know his mechanical skill but I have about 20 hours on it now and it is running strong and steady. My problem was that I was getting coolant into the oil. Not alot when it was running but when I shut it down and let it sit for a couple months about a quart of coolant went to the oil. I drained the oil before I started it after the rest period so I avoided any damage from the water in the bearings.
After talking with some of the great folks on this board, it figured that it might be the rubber seals between the bottom of the cylinders and the block or it could be some other crack. There is a newly rebuilt head on the motor from a green diesel tractor, so not likely the head. I figured I would have to pull the cylinders and all of that. I need to run the tractor this summer on my property. So I decided to try K-Seal out and hope for the best in plugging the leak. I have run the tractor about 15 hours after the K-Seal and after the first run of a few hours I shut it down and checked the crankcase the next morning and the radiator and it was down maybe a cup or less in the radiator and when I drained the bottom quart of oil from the crankcase to check for oil there was maybe two tablespoons of milky water in the bottom of the quart. After several more cycles of run and cool down I'm getting no more leakage from the coolant to the oil. Time will tell if this holds up, but, for now I can say that the K-Seal is working for me. It costs $16.50 for 8 ounces of the stuff but it did the job for me and if it holds up I'm going to dodge a major engine tear down for at least this summer. I'm pleased enough with this K-Seal that I got another bottle just to keep around "in case". I don't work for K-Seal or own interest or anything, just passing a success story in hopes it might save someone some bucks or trouble. Thanks for sharing that success story. That sure does keep you going and save a tear down, at least for now.
There are plenty of "overhaul in a bottle" rip off products on the market. I'll bet if someone had the resources, they could sue many of them for false claims.
It is a good to know that in the mix of these, there are still products that work as described.
