First JD crawler?

Is this some of the first "crawler" engineering from JD?

I really wish deere had done more than just the BO lindemans. They are neat little machines and we have three in the shed. If only they had went bigger, such as the D, then Cat and the other manufactures would have had some competition on the bigger crawlers.

That is a replica of one of the half track D crawlers that Deere experimented with. The chassis of that particular tractor came from western ND. It is actually one of the tractors Deere experimented with, then rebuilt back into a wheel tractor and sold as used. Everything you see in regards to the track mechanism in the pic was fabricated by the people that restored the tractor for Walt and Bruce Keller, except the MC pads and chains.

Hi,

Back in the day, there were a couple outfits that made halftracks to fit just about any tractor, Deere's included. Just pop off the rear wheels and bolt on their units.

I would not be surprised if Lindeman got into their business because they saw a need for a longer version. By the time you get track that long, you no longer need the front axle and wheels, so you go from half, to full, track. Logical, no?

I want a set for the old Ford 4x4 I use as a water truck for hauling water up to the garden from the river. A crawler truck!

Or just on the rear and call it a half-track!

I expect that a set would be worth about 4x the value of the truck, though!

I see where they even have kits for tandem axle trailers as well. That would be cool - to pull a track equipped trailer thru the hayfield using the 420c to pull it. Now there's a different way to pick up hay bales!

Yes, now you, too, can have tracks on *everything* in the yard, not just on that old Deere Crawler!

I have would have liked to see the 730D or the 830D converted to a crawler back then. Can't you just see an "830C" pulling a LeTourneau Hydraulic Scrape Pan?

They would have been a perfect compliment to the 840.
