2010 sn's and track wear

Post by JB » Thu Nov 11, 2010 1:46 am

Hello everyone, today I have been looking for the serial # on my JD 2010C crawler/loader with no luck. Looked all over the rh corner of the engine block and the Lh side of the bell housing. Even removed generator to scrape/clean behind it. Does anyone know if it could be somewhere else? I assume its stamped in and not a plate.? Would it be in a different place because its a diesel? By the way, when I took off the generator noticed that the bearings were shot and also the water pump bearings. were really bad. Are these parts available only from JD?
As always, thanks for your support and a great site.

The serial number was embossed on a thin steel plate rather than directly stamped, at least on the early range 2010s. On mine (a diesel), the plate is on a flat spot of the block, not on the right hand corner but about 2/3 the way up and about halfway back from the front on the right side. If you can't find it, it is likely that the engine was replaced and it is now gone. Sometimes you can find the rivet holes on the block where the plate used to be.

You can try to narrow down the serial number range by looking at undercarriage part numbers such as sprockets (42,000 break) and injector holdown part numbers (I believe somewhere around 22,000 break). This is assuming that neither has been replaced with a later or earlier range part. The parts manual details parts that vary in serial number range.

Lavoy will be able to tell you if there are aftermarket parts for the water pump and generator.

Any good electrical shop should have the generator parts on hand. Water pump parts are available as well as rebuilt pumps.

Look at my post "2010 Repair" and I have pictures and description of pressing out the water pump bearings and seals. I got the parts from Lavoy and they were just what the doctor ordered.

You will need the bearing which comes with the shaft, the seal and a bearing clip to hold the bearing in place. Easy to do, just do not use a big hammer and break the impeller. Ease stuff out with a shop press.
