after my battery over heated and the 1010 diesel wouldn't start, I took the battery out and charged it. WHEN i tried to hook it back up the sparks flew like crazy , I'm wondering if I melted the regulator or generator or if I fried the battery. from what I'bve read here the regulator is located under the dash, how do i go about getting it out? Any help is better than nothing. thank you Randy

I am not sure how similar the 2010 is to the 1010. My 2010 has the regulator above the fan between the fuel tank and radiator. Look up under the hood to see if that is the location.

Disconnect all the wires to the generator to see if the sparks stop. If so, then the generator is the short. If the sparks continue, then you can start to remove wires from the regulator one at a time. If still sparks, check the insulation on the battery cables the full length. There might be a worn spot.

If there is a direct short with the battery cables, the battery could explode. That happened to me once on a Model A truck. The battery is located under the floor board under your feet. Lucky for me the blast went down and hit the road. Whoa baby!
