420C brake adjustment
420C brake adjustment
Can anyone tell me where and how to adjust the brakes for steering? The clutch part seems to be fine. The lever just hits the seat frame as the brake is just starting to work. I pulled the round bung type plug on the front side and did not see much to adjust. Thanks in advance!!

the adjustment is beneath the square cover above the bung hole. When you open the cover the adjuster you immediately see is for the lever. lengthen this bolt to get a shorter travel on the handle. The brake adjustment is down inside and looks like a regular screw with 2 slots going across it.
If your like me, the cross nut has been tightened already and the stud is poking through (telling me that I must replace the bands.

Finaly got a break from the rain. Took the seat off as well as the covers. I must say that they is a poor design as adjustment or technician interaction was an afterthought. So the cross nut wouldn't turn....and the stud going through it had about 5/8" sticking completely above the cross nut. Not sure if it is out of adjustment or just stuck/siezed. The brake was working, the lever would just hit the seat. So what I did was adjusted the top bolt right under the top cover to allow engagement of the brake sooner. I evened out both sides. As I was putting the seat back on I even found that there were 2 more holes that would allow the seat to go back further that it was. So adjusted the seat as well. It works great now. Still worried that the brake bands might be on their last leg though. What are your thoughts with the 5/8" of the threaded stud coming above the adjuster nuts?? Thanks in advance.

If the stud is sticking out of the nut, it means you need to do brake bands.
