What's a 450B with steering clutch problems worth?

Yep those sprockets do tell the big story.

Just got the seller to tell me that the actual hours on the machine is 3000.

I bet it's more than that. And look at those grousers. They are worn almost off to nothing. If the external stuff is worn this bad you can imagine the internal stuff. You can tell this seller is really trying hard to conceal the obvious on this one.

Just out of curosity though how difficult is it to change out the sprockets on the 450B?
I know on some cats you can just replace an outer tooth ring. I don't see that on this 450B. I know that would require new chains also. expensive !!!

thanks
Dennis

If you have been given two different answers for the same question, that would be enough for me to not waste another minute. His next move will be to lower his price, just to try to unload this pile of iron on you.
Either he is guessing, lying, or plain out does not know the real history of the engine or this crawler.
If he knew the engine only had 1200 hours, why would he allow it to sit with an open exhaust? Nothing is adding up.
Others can explain it better than me, but basically all moving parts of the undercarriage work together. There is a certain pitch. If any one of the parts are worn out of spec such as the sprockets or bushings, it accelerates the wear on the rest of the undercarriage.
Chances are everything is worn past spec which means you could buy a small automobile for what it will cost you to replace everything to make it right.
Many crawlers can be made to "move", but that does not mean that they are not worn out on the bottom.

I added some more pictures. This one has obviously been through the mill.

I'm getting a little kick playing this guy though. ;-)

Still looks like a good deal to me

If this find old deere was within two hours of Edmonton Alberta I would have already snapped it up. I would have to verify that it does run and move first.

The steering cluches on a 450B are fairly easy to work on and the undercarriage looks good enough for occassional farm or accreage use.

Plus, what is the value of a winch? Value of the 6 way dozer attachement?

I would most likely get my money back out of the winch and 6 way dozer if I wrecked it.

Hello Jason
Greetings from montana. I guess you're a bit north of me up there in alberta.

Well it's like JD440ICD2006 said earlier in this thread. I just can't believe that there is no one within the 500 miles between me and that dozer that hasn't snapped it up if it's such a good deal.
I have been getting some conflicting answers from him and I'm pretty sure he's not being completely honest with me.
I finally got out of him that there is at least 3000 hours on the machine and probably more. He says he put in a new motor 1223 hours ago.
Who in their right mind would leave a new motors exhaust open to the weather for a year~ more?
Anyway things just don't add up. It is a bit tempting but 500 miles comes out to somewhere around 1k bucks to have it shipped. If someone knows a cheaper way please let me know.
I don't think I would be completely legal or safe hauling it with my old dodge cummins pickup. It's not a monster dozer but still probably 16k pounds.

Dennis
