440 FS in Central Maine...

Post by CharleyF » Thu Oct 06, 2011 7:18 pm

Found this on Craigslist this evening in central Maine:

John Deere 440 bulldozer, 2 cylinder gas, runs good. Doesn't steer, good pins and bushings. Has winch on rear.
Sprockets look good. Asking $2800 May consider parting out for large parts.

I might look at it but don't need another project. It's not far from here. I hate seeing stuff get parted out. I know nothing about the 440- bad clutches perhaps??

Could be that it was left out and moisture swelled the clutch disk, or the seals have leaked oil on them. No matter what is wrong, unless it is just throw out needing adjustment, you will need to pull both finals and replace the fiber disk, seals, etc. Not easy and not cheap.
Look it over well, most people cannot "look" at undercarriage parts and determine their true condition. It takes many measurements, not just how much meat is left on the grousers.

Your right, I thought about and decided I have too many projects and could put the money elsewhere and it would be better spent.
