I need to break the track on my 40 C --- slipping in final drive or steering clutches on left side ( I assume). The right side has a link pin with a head that is easily identified but there is not one on the left side. Can I punch out any pin and can they be punch in either direction? My uncle owned the tractor and I think I remember him saying they only go one way.
Any information would be appreciated. Thanks

I have had mine off and mine has a master pin that has a circlip type retainer that has to be removed before you can drive pin out, , has to be real clean to find it.
Re: breaking track on 40C
Check both sides of the track/rails. The MASTER pin may need to be removed in the same direction even though the track/rails are on correctly.C.Bowers wrote:I need to break the track on my 40 C --- slipping in final drive or steering clutches on left side ( I assume). On my fathers Model 40C the track/rails are installed correctly, however, the MASTER pin can only be removed in one direction only. One side the MASTER pin can be removed from outside of the track/rails. The other side needs to be removed from inside of the track/rails or under the machine.
Hope this information helps.

Even though the track you are asking about is not a headed master pin, there should be a master pin that is slightly different than the rest. Usually they have a small dimple or other marking. You need to drive that one out and not any other pin as the others are installed differently and will be difficult to impossible to drive out. If you do remove a regular pin, you will have a hard time installing and retaining a new regular pin. That is why they have a master pin.
You may need to pressure wash the track pins to see it and it may be on the inside rather than the outside of the track. Some people tack weld them in which may be another clue to you.
This is a subject that is discussed often, souse the search function if you want more information.

LOL, I didn't even look at the date because someone else had responded.
Of course with some of these projects you never know if they have broke the track or not
