350 Track Adjuster

Post by xeagerx » Fri Jan 06, 2012 10:44 am

Greeting..I am machining a new piston for the the track adjuster. The new seal kit is different ..My question is ; When I install the back-up ring on the piston ..does it go toward the idler side of o-ring or the spring side? I always thought the back-up went on low pressure side..but parts manual shows different....Thanks xeagerx

Okay... You say you are machining a new piston for the ram and that the seal kit is different? In what way is it different? There are two styles of seals that I am aware of. One is the old style that has a flat or square looking o-ring with a backing ring. The newer style is a cup style seal and is a translucent color and is quite a bit thicker than the the old style.
It sounds like you have got the old style seal and to answer your question... the backing ring goes to the spring side of the seal. The newer style seal doesn't use a backing ring.
You would get more responses to your 350 questions over on the late model crawlers section.
