I'm getting ready to pull the 420 into the shop for an inspection\overhaul and I plan on converting my existing blade to 6 way hyd.
Right now it has the L-601 blade on it of which I havent seen before.
Does anyone have any info on it? What are the benefits to having the upper lift arms?

420 dozer
Looks like a real pain to get to engine and maybe to see around to operate. Greg

I can't see enough in your pictures, but:What are the benefits to having the upper lift arms?
1. Will this design allow for an easy power tilt? Looks like the center pin on the blade is a ball.
2. It is a design that works.
3. Keeps the lift cylinder length short
4. Look at the push frame. The center push uses a design found in more modern crawlers for angling the blade, which will allow for easier power conversion.
Detriments:
As mentioned, visibility
weight
restricts access to other parts of the machine
looks like the mechanical advantage at the blade favors the load and not the hydraulics - might be hard to lift the blade when loaded.
Just some thoughts. Paul

Newbie here. I got a 1957 420 with the same L601 blade configuration as yours.I'm currently making my blade power angle.I see that your lift cyls have been replaced and am planning on replacing mine as well.Cheaper to replace than to repair.Cyls work ok, just leaky from the shaft having pits and making wiper seal leak a bit.One of the best things I like about this blade set-up is the height it'll lift(about 16" above the belly of the machine). If you gotta do some work on machine and lifting arm is in the way...take 3 pins out and remove it,takes less than 5 minutes.
