top roller

Post by 57jd420 » Sun Nov 04, 2012 12:33 pm

the right hand side top roller on my 420 is worn bad but only on the outside. I'm pretty confused because nothing else is worn more than it should be. but anyway, pretty sure i remembered that i read on here the top rollers are cast?? will a top roller off of any other model work, like maybe a 350?

You might need to check your alignment. I know on my 440 the left rear is out a bit far, so it pushes the top idler out some, thus causing the track to wear on the outside.
I was able to spot this because I noticed where the sprocket sits up in the back idler the gap on each side wasn't even.

The book details how to align all of the undercarriage components.

420 through 2010 are the same roller (not the bracket) the only new rollers that you can get (that i know of and hard to find) are 350 which you can use BUT you need to push the inside bushing in about 3/8 inch and machine the end of the roller to except the new 2010 style seal (standard lip seal) or see if Lavoy has any used if he don't try don Peila tractor 541 772 1801 or 541 842 4331 if he don't there 3 on eBay but they are around $250 with bracket.... one other thing you can do is if it is not worn down into the bolt holes you can weld it up

They are available from JDeere. It should be a part number AT12783. They call it a support. I just purchased one for 206.00

I would check with Lavoy first. He can usually meet or beat Deere price on most anything. Besides he owns this site and sells parts which makes it possible for us to come here for help, information and parts.

I agree with you 100%, I think everyone know Lavoy is the God of JD crawlers, but when I needed a upper idler lavoy didn't have one and had to have one made. And as always with parts, I could of used one yesterday.

Shaft is pressed in, comes out easily in a press.
I have new shafts on hand.
