Paul's 1010 Crawler/Loader Sell or Fix?

One of the pins in my left chain has separated. was able to limp back to the barn. I can probably still drive it up onto a trailer but that's about it. My quandary is whether to sell for scrap or fix the undercarriage.

Runs like a top. Starts in the cold. But it needs rollers rails and pads. rear sprocket is ok.

looks to nice to scrap if you use it much fix it if you dont use it enough find some one that would want to repair her

I beleive that rollers and pads are still available- the problem would be new links (rails). You would have to find a good set to repin/rebush. I am not sure if you can upgrade a 1010 to 350 undercarriage (don't think so) but that would be a consideration as otherwise new rails are not available and pins/bushings difficult to find.

BTW, the photos of your rails didn't look too bad to repin/rebush but maybe the photo is older.

The one good thing is that you appear to really know this crawler, and if you parted out you would be starting out new to get another one. If you are getting out of crawlers or want a newer one, then maybe find but if looking to stay older then maybe it is worth fixing up especially since engine is good.

contact http://www.industrialtractorparts.com/ they should have new aftermarket chain for your crawler. they even had 2 bolt chain for my 420. this will save you from going to a 350 upgrade.

Okay, now I am stumped. You say you bought new 2 bolt chain from ITP? To the best of my knowledge, 2 bolt chain has not been manufactured from any supplier OEM or aftermarket in close to 30 years. If they have it, great, but they have never told me about it.

Thanks everybody, especially for the tips on where to get parts - i do really like this crawler. Its the right size and power, and its a loader which i really fnd useful as well. I will try to find the parts for it and keep her if i can. More later....

I think that next summer I will be parting out my 1010. Although it still runs and drives, it needs an engine overhaul and has a few other issues.

What it does have is new chains, rollers, and sprockets but, the pads are worn out . The original owner replaced the rest and then it sat for many years.

I will be looking for near new replacement value, or it won't get scrapped. But if someone is looking for near new, I have it.

the rollers still have the plastik caps that came with them when new.

Lavoy, I contacted the Pittsburgh area office about a month ago looking for pricing on tracks and pads for my 5 roller 420. they had 2 bolt chain with the same pin spacing, around 6", going off of memory, and they was aware of the model and year of my crawler. they gave me a price of 1600.00 for new chain and 14" single grouser pads with bolts, that was an assembled price per side. they did not have12" pads, the lady I talked to said 12" pads have not been made for a while. I even asked that if this is a 350 upgrade and she said no this is a 2bolt chain. the only thing I can say is call them. let me know, I did not purchase them since I wanted to get all the life I can out of my current tracks. I think she also said the 14" pads was around 14.00 a piece.

I thought it was a good deal since I wouldn't have to cut up the 420 sprockets and intermix it with the 350 teeth. for those prices I think it's foolish to ever pin and bush a older chain.

They just returned my inquiry, and said they have no two bolt rails of any sort in stock for Deere, so who knows.

lavoy, I also called Industrial tractor parts and inquired about what they was going to sell me. It was a 350, 4 bolt upgrade. I did not know the pin spacing is the same as the 420, that being 5-3/4" from pin to pin. Just to give everyone an idea what it would cost to buy a assembled chain with 12" single grouser pads for a 35 link chain is anywhere from 3043.80 to 3327.00. That also included new 350 sprockets, that would have to be cut and welded onto the 420 sprocket. Some also offered free shipping. That's not too bad since deere pins and bushings was pretty close to that price!

Thanks. This is all kind of mind boggling.

Another cost is getting this stuff to Oregon since its so heavy. $$$. Thanks for the local tips. I'll keep searching around here where i can drive to pick the parts up.
