8a winch brake

Post by NNAATZ » Wed Jan 09, 2013 8:55 pm

dose the spring apply the brake then the slave cylinder release it? so when you apply the clutch, the brake slave releases brake, for power in. then when the clutch released, brake cylinder also released, spring presure applied brake is on. to free spool release break by pressure to the brake cyl.

but somhow im missing somthing here.........

think i got the mechanical advantage of the brake figered out, it dont need to be relesed when the winch is powering in. when cable is pulled out or on, it natrally wants to pull tighter along with the spring pressure, then the slave releases it to free spool..... rite???

gregjo1948, you aready sent me one. ;) thank you. i found the drawing and operation instructions alittle vague, had to read it several times to understand it, and trying to visulize the functuon of missing parts, mainly the brake rod springs and tube and how it contacts the band. i found some parts others will need fabrication. any pics will help

thanks nick

Kind of dorky to look at this way, but when the winch is spooling in, the brake band is self unapplying for lack of a better term. When you stop and try to spool cable out, the brake self applies, therefore you have to manually release the brake so the drum will turn the other direction.

yes that does make sense thanks. i got some parts, trying replicate others. i read through the manual again. found out that there are 2 tubes, 1 with the spring and adjuster to hold tension on the band, to help create brake action (thats on the bottom). the 2nd tube comes from the slave to break the breaking action, then rod that runs through the holds the tubes in line...corrrect??????

That sounds about right. I do have at least some parts available if need be.
