Need a starter solenoid for a 440icd

Post by 10fords » Sat Mar 09, 2013 12:39 am

Finally found someone to haul my free 440icd home, but I couldn't get it to start to get it on the trailer:x I took the starter out and brought it home to look at it and found one of the lugs on the solenoid had been previously rigged and had finally failed. Does anyone know the part # for these solenoids, or if they are even available? Thanks- Scott

jtrichard- Thanks a lot for all the info! I am going to town today and will see if I can find one of those part #'s at Napa. Alas, as I am a Ford guy I don't have any Chevy starters laying around!

Ended up getting one at O'reillys, got it in and all is well! I'll put it back in the tractor tomorrow or Monday and hope I can get the hauler back soon if it starts. I'm sure happy it was an easy to obtain part as I was assuming it would be tough to find because of the age. I won't go into detail of some of the "fixes" I had concocted in my head if I couldn't find a replacement, but even ol' Rube Goldberg himself might have been proud!
