some general questions

Post by ronnk » Sat Mar 16, 2013 3:59 pm

I am a newbie to this site and have aquired a 420c with what I believe to be an after market blade. I believe from the SN (80808) it should be early 1956.
My Dad and i worked on these oldies years ago but a lot of the general knowledge as we has left town. So I would appreciate your help with a couple general questions.
The questions:
What weight crank case oil should I use and if possible a NAPA number for the oil filter?
What is the spark plug gap?
What is the point gap?

I have replaced the cap, rotor, and dust cover but still starting is not consistant. Some days we will start the next day no. But runs great when it is running except at low throttle.
JD oldie but my newbie

Welcome, The engine oil would be 5 quarts of straight 30 weight or 10w30. Deere's oil filter number is AH1111RT NAPA can cross it to their brand. Plug gap is .025 and point gap is .022
Hope this helps Ron
