420/430 Water Pump

Post by foxd » Tue Mar 26, 2013 5:06 pm

I am attempting to disassemble/repair a water pump off a 420 motor, per the service manual. I pulled the back half of the pulley off as instructed. The manual then said to remove bearing retaining clip (R1529R). When I attempted to remove the old rusty clip of course it snapped off :( down inside the casting, flush with where I believe it begins to engage the bearing. There is not enough left to get ahold of with pliers. Has anyone else had this happen and how did you remove the old broken off clip? Can it be drilled out? Any help or advise would be appreciated.
Thanks - Dave

I've tried drilling, forcing out with another pin...
Finally just put it in the press and press it out and the pin will give.
It is usually brittle from the rust.
