with blaster only coming out one plug hole i agree with one of the previous comments you are close to top dead center and the crank hasnt been turned enough to cycle the 2nd piston. if it was me i'd pull the motor take off the head and remove the crank and knock the pistons out or if the one is still really stuck let it in and take the block to an engine shop and have them hone the cylinder walls. depending on how bad they look you might have to do a rebore and go with oversized pistons. but i'd let the engine guy make that call. just my 2 cents worth and by the way, very nice looking machine.

Why do the front idlers look too big or the top idlers look too low? It looks as if it might have 3 pt. hitch also. gregjo1948

Rockshaft arms are there, looks like the cylinder and special cylinder bracket are missing.

Well after a fews days of soaking in blaster I can now spin the crank by my crank handle I made. I put the plugs in, charged the battery and it will turn over on its own. For now I want to get a carb kit and drain/refill the gas tank and fuel line to see if it will start.

if you can do a compression test before you run it and then after it has a little run time on it and see what you get

I had my buddy who does engine work check it and it appears to be pretty good. I am hesitant but would like to get the fuel system cleaned and see if it will start on its own. eventually I would like to rebuild where needed and make it into a mean machine again. Right now the fuel tank has maple syrup in it any ideas to flush it?

Get some good hot griddle cakes with real butter.....................
Seriously, there are a several products that can eventually clean out a gas tank.

Hi: When I bought my 420, it also had a tight engine. I got it loose like you have, and added about a tablespoon of diesel oil to each cylinder before firing it up. I think that diesel has more lubrication properties than PB Blaster and may prevent or minimize cylinder scoring, while keeping the rings loose. I also made sure that I had oil flowing at the valve train - valve cover off, before firing.
I've used a 1/2 gallon auxiliary tank and hose to run engines when I'm concerned about junk in the original tank. This lets me get the engine running ( I'm impatient)and not mess up my carburetor. Once happy, then I spend time cleaning and resealing/lining the tank as needed.

Having fought my ignition system and shorts, I'd recommend checking it out now for consistent and hot spark too. A back fire can do damage or at least confuse your efforts.

Good luck. Paul

dump out what you can and then take about a 2' piece of small link chain. like a swing chain or chain you would hang a flower basket with. drop it in the tank with a little bit of gas and shake the heck out of it. just keep repeating the process until its clean.

or you could just take your tank for an acid bath. if you have anywhere close to you that does that. I have one about 5 min from my house, they can do small little pieces clear up to an entire car body.

I dumped some sea foam and B12 in the tank to soak. When I dumped it I didn't see any particles or rust coming out. I looked with a light and the tank looks pretty clean. I still have to rebuild the carb and get everything clean in the fuel system before I try to fire it up.

Ok who can tell me how to tighten/adjust the fan/crank belt? It has loosened and won't turn without tightening it. By the way thanks to Lavoy for getting me some parts quickly!

on the fan pulley there will be a jam nut on a set screw. loosen the jam nut and you will need an allen wrench for the set screw. if you look at the pulley you will see lugs on there, take a brass rod or punch and hit the lugs it will rotate the front part of the pulley and make the belt tighter.

Beautiful machine.

I agree with trying to make it run first, even if it needs a motor job eventually, you can at least free everything up and get the engine hot and flush out all the sludge and condensation and crap.

It takes 5W20 oil. I'd change it after the first time you get it up to temperature, it probably looks like the Gulf of Mexico after the BP incident inside.
