Exhaust: 440 IC (Loader)

The make-shift muffler on the tractor is no longer serviceable so what are my options. Is it necessary to run a muffler or can I opt for straight pipe out of the manifold without a loss of performance or risk to the engine? Or where would I find a reasonably priced replacement. Thanks.
Wally
Straight pipe is obnoxious, but won't hurt anything. I stock both standard and silencer mufflers.

It is not only annoying - your neighbors a mile away will think it is annoying. Plus the exhaust pipe sticks up about head height and the sound will do as much damage to your ears as a ghetto boom box. Gil
