JD 450B loose track

Post by srshaw3 » Mon Jul 01, 2013 11:30 am

I had my steering clutches done last year, and have been getting some quality seat time on the 450B (clearing stumps and boulders from a clearing). On Saturday I noticed one track had developed quite a bit of slack. I added grease and it looked about right. On Sunday after some more work, it had even more slack in it. I added grease and it tightened up a bit, but then the grease was coming out of the zerk, and the track was not as tight as before.

Thoughts?

losing grease will cause slack, put a new zerk in and see if that fixes the problem.

Ok, I read in the manual about checking for breakage too, so will review. The zerk does look relatively new.
