two stroke diesel trouble
Could it be the valve adjustment/timing? On the 318 Detroit, the galloping was caused, I believe, by improper rack adjustment. gregjo1948

can you take the line loose from the pump and crank it with your thumb over the line see if you (A) get pressure (B) see if the fuel has air in it.... it could be you need to reseal the pump shaft ... I had that happen on 6v53 it ran like crap ... they don't like air
2010 with 622 dozer with mod. 35 ripper and a 2010 with 622 dozer bought in 1969 and a 2010 loader with drott and mod. 36 ripper
That is what I was thinking, or pull the line off at the return and see what kind of flow you are getting.

Did you work on anything else recently? All of the Detroits I worked on had a restricted fitting on the return line to maintain pressure between the pump and the injectors. Possible you took this fitting off and replaced it with a standard fitting?
Had a fuel problem with my old Pettibone/Dynahoe machine that was very similar to what you described. It would suck the filter dry and then shut down. Turned out to be a paint or rust flake in the tank outlet fitting. You might want to check again to make sure fuel is getting to the pump.
There's either a blockage somewhere or a suction leak. Gonna be something simple when you do find it.
