Hyd pressure limits.

Post by gus » Tue Aug 06, 2013 3:20 pm

Lavoy,
One time you told me to keep it at 1000 psi. My tractor has NO original hydraulic parts and it has a new front mount pump. Any reason this couldn't go to 1500 psi??

The reason I'm asking is that my 3 pt would work better with a little more pressure. The local hydr shop didn't see a problem with it.

New pump, all new lines, new valve, new or freshly rebuilt cylinders.

If no remaining factory hyd parts, then you really won't blow anything up.
Be careful though with extra lift capacity on the 3PT, I have seen lots of busted rockshaft housings, bent and broken cylinder brackets, broken welded drop links, etc. No sense taking chances with irreplaceable parts.
Also, going to the next larger cylinder diameter will do about the same thing.

This is the home built 3 pt. It has a 3" cyl under the seat and I probably can't easily go up much. It raised the brush hog but due to it's pivoting top link design (the brush hog's) I would need a shorter top link to know for sure what it will do. I plan on making a shorter link.

With no original factory low pressure parts, I see no reason why you can't bump the pressure up. I would probably not go past 2000PSI, and make sure you never hook up any old low pressure cylinders the system.
