5 year idle 440icd crawler-loader (want to start)

has not been started 4-5 yrs. what are things I need to do before
attemting to start.
x---fuel tank,pump ,injectors,priming ?????
x---water,oil DONE
x---mag.???????????
x---starter ???? last time tried to start (4-5 yrs.ago) fire sparks flew from battery and
starter (suspect hung solenoid on starter ??)
x--- can hydr.pump be temp.shut off on this machine (ease in starting)
x--- other advice?????????????????/

on 2 53 i would pull the rocker cover and make sure the rack is free ... and you can crack the inj lines and blead
2010 with 622 dozer with mod. 35 ripper and a 2010 with 622 dozer bought in 1969 and a 2010 loader with drott and mod. 36 ripper

Fuel rack

I would also recommend removing the valve cover and make sure the fuel rack is free.

I would remove the intake bowl and have a rag ready to smother the intake in case the engine wants to run away in you. I don't think that 253's have a blower emergency shut off on them.

You don't need to crack the injector lines. The system will bleed itself.
