2-53 wont start
Hello Yes I bought the S-45 type injectors and The timing tool and believe I did it correctly not possitive though, Im not sure about the exhaust valve timing because when I went to time them the gap was much larger before and now there's barely any gap with the .011 the gap was probably .027 or larger and I dont think with it sitting it would cause the motor to gap that large Thats why im baffled, I am not positive that the exhaust valves would come close to seating properly and I dont feel like ripping the head off just to take a look that wouldnt be to great but if I got to do it to look at the valves then so be it. A compression test would be good but Im not sure I could afford to bring it some where right now and a new test kit is around 200 which is a great thing to have but not thrilled about having to buy it when I know there's atleast some compression from a basic hand over cylinder test. When I took the blower off I wiped down the inside of all the pb blaster I sprayed down the cylinder hole when freeing the motor. I let the blaster sit for a couple days then rocked the motor back and forth till it free'd up put all new oil and filters and injectors and still a no go for the motor.? I will keep trying though till I get er runnin again.

ahhh a new development it was STUCK? Now it is a whole new ball game first the valves changing gap if they were not closing all the way when you checked them the first time you would have a wide gap and as you are trying numerous times to start it now they are closing better = less gap ..now to it wont start.. if the rings are stuck and there is any taper in the cylinders you wont have enough compression to fire and you would have white smoke...

Should be 35's, you will be pretty long on power with 45's.

depends how stuck it was and if the rings free up.... if the cyls. are pitted then you need new sleeves and if you re-ring the sleeves are supposed to be pulled and the pistons go in from the bottom .... are there air boxes on the 2-53?? if so pull them or the blower?? and bring the pistons down to to air holes and use a piece of wood and gently push on the rings and see if you can get any movement and see what the rings look like

This was a pretty good thread about the different injector types used on a 2-53.

If you are inclined to do the work, and spend the money, I would get an N series kit for it, and put N series injectors in it at the same time. It will start better, and you should never have to go back in there again.

The Engine is not stuck It is not pitted either I took a look at the cylinders when I dropped the oil pan to look up in while freeing the motor which was fairly easy. The starter would move it 1/4 of an inch at a time when I first got the machine, Guy left it sitting for a few years and had it covered, I couldn't say no to the price, I paid for the trailer and got machine with trailer knowing it hadn't run in awhile and needed some work.. So the cylinders are definitely good as far as that goes I sprayed the cylinders down with pb blaster so Maybe this is causing it not to start, I believe the cylinders are trunk style? this is what I heard on another thread so maybe I should get something down the injector hole and soak up that p.b and spray some ether in the cylinder instead??

Hey Tigerhaze that was a real good thread on injectors for the 2-53 the guys there confirmed that the S45 is ok to use just uses a little more fuel consumption but is perfectly safe. I will try getting the cylinder heads cleaned this weekend and try spraying some ether in the injector holes before installing injectors see if that gives a pop to start it?

the PB should not have much affect on starting i would use a fair amount of starting fluid (on a Detroit is is almost impossible to use too much so don't be stingy with it) and it should at least try to fire ....i have a 6V53 it had like 0.040 taper and ran like a top... only reason i rebuilt it was i had to drain a gallon of coolant out of the oil pan every morning...seals on the head were all leaking from rust (P.O. had never ran antifreeze in it) i would drench the air filter with starting fluid till dripping then walk around and get in the cab and crank and she would fire right up

They are okay to run as far as the engine, of course, but more fuel means more power. More power means start buying drivetrain components and band aids.

maybe I didnt use enough starting fluid, I just put two little squirts in the blower hole figuring it would work that way. I am still going to pull the injectors out and clean the crown off, I poured p.b. and seafoam in there and im sure thats not helping mixing with diesel. .

It makes a difference where you're spraying the ether in also. There's a small plug on the side of the blower. You should spray in there. If you're spraying at the air cleaner it is having to go through the oil bath and filter element.
I'd say your rings are probably stuck. It might run but not very good and will use oil.

I agree that rings are stuck probably from engine sitting to long, Im hoping that if I get it to run it will bring motor up to temp and possibly free the rings if not then I will end up rebuilding motor with a inframe kit from mcbee, Inframe is a good 350 to 400 bucks but thats not bad considering a reman engine is 2000 or more. Small investment considering I got the machine for next to nothing.
