Hey jtrichard
Thanks for the link, I will keep it in mind, I may just go this route either way just to besure the motor is in good standing order, Just stinks I got to wait to get that done till tax time but it will be a fun project to do. I did a rebuild in the navy for a 8 cyl 60 series so it should be easy enough just had more hands to help with the 8 cyl and lots of time...

one thing to remember on a 53 series is that the pistons go in the liners from the bottom then you put the liner with piston and rod in the block

I will try and keep that in mind, I dont plan on doing the overhaul till next spring so I will have to try and revisit the forum . although I do have a manual on my computer for the 53 series, its not specific with the engines, I know alot of the same components are on the 3 -53 ie, blower ,gov, etc.. it would be nice to have more time after work, weekends just arent enough.. any suggestions on a good engine paint? Yellow...

well felt ambitious when I got home from work instead of hunting I went and worked on the tractor. I took off 1 injector and cleaned crown then got starting fluid on the crown and replaced injector and put everything back together and one little poof. looks like a engine rebuild for me... must not be enough compression for it to go.. will be saving my penny's this winter to get her up and running. once that happens I will need some hydraulic lines for the bucket. got a couple of rotten lines In the back of the machine. Hopefully it doesn't become a money pit. so far I only got 200 in parts. not bad considering it was missing the generator which I turned to 12v alternator and had no belts and newly rebuilt injectors.

Flurrdog, you can still get the correct paint from Deere. It's call "Old Construction Yellow" be careful because there is a "Construction Yellow" also, which is the newer, brighter yellow.
I painted mine with it and it is holding up good. It went on nice, however it was a little tough to get it to cover. Never tried the tractor supply stuff. I was going to back when tsc used Valspar but now they use a different brand.

Hey ben, I will take that into consideration. I heard the deere paint is pretty expensive though I will take a look around and see what I can get. Tried some ether in the other cylinder for haha's and still no luck, just not enough compression to get it fired up . Im thinking of doing all the fuel lines with copper, and trying to find some new exhaust valves as well.
