The smoke might be from unburned fuel.( running to rich) We could use more info to better help you. Does it start harder than usual-how does it idle-does it run smoothly-have you over filled the engine oil-is it timed correctly. gregjo1948

Sometime it has a hard start ... when it idels it sounds good blows a good amount of smoke... not sure on the oil if there is to much what could that have to do with it running on less power ... i belive i timed it right .. I lined the dc mark up on the flywheel and also lined the pump up before installing it ...fuel is flowing to the injectors fine ...

Over full of oil can cause the smoke you refered to, not the lack of power. Being a 1010 diesel, I think they all start a bit hard. If it's starting as it always has, I'd disreguard that as a symtom to the problem.Check for restricted air intake or too much oil in air cleaner. Check the fittings and return lines for obstuctuions. Be sure your throttle linkage is working as it should. I believe there are 2 shut-off valves to the fuel tank that need to be openned. If the pump was worked on, possibly something not quite right there. They are quite complicated. At least for me they are. gregjo1948

can how i fix the lack of power issue though.... air intake is cleared i just reinstalled it ... the linkage is working fine to my knowleadge never messed with it when disconnecting the pump... both fuel lines are working like they should ... the pumped was taken to a shop where it was rebuilt ... is there something i can do to get more power ...
Did you check both air cleaners? I believe the 1010 has two of them just like the 2010. There is a precleaner on the top of the hood and then an oil bath air cleaner in a cup between your legs below the dash.
If that isn't an issue, there are a number of good threads that Jdemaris put together to answer questions about lack of power on the 1010s and 2010s, especially after an injection pump removal. I don't have the time to resurrect them all but if you use the seach button at the top right and put in his username and some keywords you can easily find them. One tip is that the mechanical advance on the injection pump can become "lazy" (his words). Another tip is the injector nozzles can become crudded up.
